Absolutely New Look
When we had completed the design for the mobile version of the very successful FL Studio application, the client decided that the desktop application needed to become mobile. That’s when it was time for Deckadance - the DJ mixing application for iOS, to have an absolutely new look.

A Natural Feeling, A Natural User Experience
The lack of tactile feeling is the most challenging task to be solved in such projects. Our task was to make the user experience as natural as possible. Because the overall look was very important, we decided that a real life device lookalike interface would be the best solution.

Reference and Inspiration
We went through dozens of photos of similar devices to come up with a generic image that will look realistic, and at the same time, be very recognizable. Finally, some devices by Pioneer were used as the basis for this app. Every detail, every button and every knob should look real.

Version for Retina Displays

With time, the version for Retina displays was also designed. It required additional details and textures to look pixel perfect and natural.

An interface version for every resolution was designed separately with maximum attention to details. The application should look perfect on each iOS device.

Version
for iPhone
When the iPad version was done, the client decided that a version for the iPhone was needed as well. We have made a few tests and saw that just scaling it down would not work. The interface had to be redesigned and simplified a bit to avoid being cluttered. Some functions were hidden to appear in popups when needed.

Touch screen is also an option
We realized that the iPad touch screen would not replace the real device for some people, because one thing that is missing is the tactile feeling, so our job was to make this experience as exciting and realistic as possible.
